Lightyear is an innovative and progressive scale-up with one mission: clean mobility for everyone, everywhere.
Lightyear originates from the legacy as a multiple world championship of the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge® Cruiser Class. Officially established in 2016 by 5 visionaries with the dream to make this groundbreaking technology accessible to everyone, everywhere. In order to accelerate the transition towards a truly sustainable solution for mobility, we believe that it is necessary to completely rethink automotive design by starting from scratch, not limited by industry conventions.
At Lightyear, we all strive for the same goal. We have a team with diverse skill sets and backgrounds; all working tirelessly towards clean mobility for everyone, everywhere. We’re proud of our culture and live up to our core values: think independently, be bold, deliver the change, put people first and take responsibility. Our shared vision is what unites and drives us.
Working at Lightyear is a unique experience. You get the opportunity to work for a company with a pure and meaningful mission. A mission that will make a positive and lasting impact on future generations.
What will you do as Senior Control Engineer?
You will become part of the Performance & Control domain within the Technology Circle. While this circle is divided into several triangles (teams), you'll become part of the Engineering Triangle which is the team that actually engineers our (future) products in which a lot of different domains merge together.
Being part of the Performance & Control Domain, you'll be allocated to one or multiple (sub-)systems in which you work on control engineering while you collaborate with engineers & architects coming from different domains. For instance, if you'll work on our in-wheel motors you'll team-up with software, electrical, electromagnetic, thermal and mechanical engineers. Together you'll deliver what is required and it's up to you to add value given your control expertise.
In the morning you update your project teams on the progress of your control system developments and future plans for improvement. Afterwards, you define a concept of a control functionality feature requested by the stakeholders or perform simulations of your latest controller design in MATLAB or Simulink, while debugging the controller implementation in C from the previous SiL (software in the loop) or HiL (hardware in the loop) tests.
In the afternoon, after preparing the test bench, you execute some other validation tests, you analyze the results using a combination of your own scripts and a company library (to which you may contribute), and you summarize the findings in a test report.
At the end of the day you double check if development is on schedule and you reflect on your own and the project team planning. And of course, during the day you exchange your thoughts with colleagues on the cause of bugs, system architectural decisions, and you have a lot of fun with your colleagues!
As Lightyear is still a young company you have plenty of opportunity to make your mark. You regularly have discussions with the team and join our Friday week review before heading off to our epic (temporarily online) Friday afternoon drinks and at the end of the week having a highly contributed feeling about the achieved results! Building the way forward for Lightyear. Your job will consist of but is not limited to:
