Country of Work Location: Netherlands

Shell Nederland BV is a platform for international collaboration, with Shell offering direct employment to around ten thousand people in the Netherlands alone, including roughly 2,800 non-Dutch employees from around 80 countries. Diversity is key at Shell Nederland, and our employees reflect the innovation that stems from a diverse workforce. By joining Shell Nederland, you will benefit from an unrivalled industry-leading development programme that will see you tap into a pool of expert knowledge that will help propel your career. Shell Nederland is the holding company of most Shell companies operating in the Netherlands. Shell Nederland also has an advisory and coordinating role in numerous areas.
Here at Shell, there are so many opportunities to learn. This is a chance to build on your Information Security experience – you’ll be part of a very visible global team using the best tools to protect the advanced IT systems that fuel our progress.
What’s the role?
Life moves fast at Shell. Collectively, we’re exploring innovative ideas and new energy sources to meet the growing global demand for energy, whilst also tackling climate change. So much of our progress depends on IT – and, in turn, on strong cyber security. As part of our 35-strong cyber security team, you’ll join colleagues in India, the US and the Netherlands who play a vital, visible role protecting us from business disruption, data breaches and damage to our brand.
If you’re keen to learn and grow, you’ll be in your element here. You’ll work across regions, on new projects involving new processes, tools and technology. The team has a shared pride in helping us stay one step ahead: scanning the horizon, seeing what others are doing in the field, and finding vulnerabilities, fast.
Specifically, the job includes carrying out real-time monitoring, detecting and reporting on potential cyber breaches across the Shell IT landscape using Splunk, FireEye, RSA, etc. By carefully analysing threats, you’ll find the right balance between caution and false positives. You’ll also carry out data harvesting and proactively check the performance of the monitoring tools we use including DS, desktop monitoring agents, NetFlow, DLP and Proxy.
What we need from you
We’re open minded about your background. We want to hear from men and women with experience in Information Security (or related IT roles), strong analytical ability and good attention to detail. If you take pride in a job well done and can work positively and proactively, you’ll fit in well with our diverse, multicultural team.
It goes without saying that you need knowledge of Windows, Unix and Linux – beyond that, we’re looking for people who are keen to learn, with plenty of the following on their CV:
- A broad understanding of the different stages of Information Risk Management framework development.
- Strong experience with monitoring tools such as ArcSight, Splunk (ES), Network monitoring tools, IDS systems and Incident Response tools.
- Experience with performing incident response and IT forensic investigations.
- Knowledge of Information Security principles / standards.
- Some knowledge of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, network layers, Ethernet, ARP, etc.)
- A little relevant background knowledge – for example of malware operation and indicators – or current threat landscape (threat actors, APT, cybercrime, etc.)
